We provide supports for daily living and community participation as well as facilitating programs and initiatives. We help individuals with intellectual disabilities discover their gifts and abilities, and support them to achieve their goals for a meaningful life.

SUPPORTED group living

We provide homes for 16 adults with intellectual disabilities and 18 assistants (some who live-in and some who live-out) who come to help. For our staff, this is more than a job. In each of our three homes, those with and without intellectual disabilities live together. We don’t just “care for” people; rather, we share life, chores, meals, outings, challenges and celebrations together. This is what makes L'Arche unique. We value the life-changing relationships that unfold within and an environment that is inclusive, secure and with dignity for all. Each of the three L’Arche Arnprior homes is named after the street where they are located:

Arthur House is our newest and largest home which we built in 2013. This home has 6 core members.

McLachlin House is our smallest home. This home has 5 core members, and is located just one block away from our administrative offices.

Usborne House is located just outside the town limits in McNab-Braeside on a large property, and is home to 5 core members.

supported independent living (SIL)

Our Supported Independent Living Program (SIL) supports 7 core members who live in their own residences throughout the community. SIL also has 3 core members who we support in long term care. The 4 SIL assistants who support our SIL program go above and beyond to ensure quality suppoirt for our members.

Rainbow House is a separate dwelling in the backyard of McLachlin House used currently as a transition bachelor apartment for a SIL member awaiting appropriate permanent housing. Over the years it has been used for various things like meetings, programs, and as a guest house, etc.

I have been associated with L’Arche Arnprior for over 30 years and that association has been life changing for me. I have learned about acceptance, about genuine care and compassion, and about unconditional love. I have been nurtured, supported and cherished. I have learned the value of true relationships and lasting friendships and I have been truly blessed. It is the best kept secret in town!!!
